IBE’s flagship program, the Youth Video Institute (YVI), provides services in the fields of television and video production, computer animation/graphics, broadcast journalism and on-air talent since 1983. Crewmembers ranging in age showcase their talents through various productions including The Derwin Smiley Show, Not Today (a short film) and 360 DEGREES. IBE boasts an astounding rate of success with students pursuing post-secondary education in the field of communications or technology. Many of our youth have received financial rewards and college scholarships through their work with YVI.
YVI’s latest venture, YVI Productions, combines the talents and skills of alumni to produce media products to companies and individuals. This is another way Indiana Black Expo, Inc. is serving the community. We utilize the resources within the community by engaging students in aspects of entrepreneurship. IBE prepares and encourages YVI students to continue their educations and eventually become pillars in our community, starting companies and investing in those currently here.
